Hermosa / Wembley

The people behind one of our North of Perth favourites, Tropico have just opened a new venue in Wembley. You’ll find Hermosa on Cambridge Street in a large and open venue, which really invites you in.   Inside is a chic and modern venue. There’s plenty of light and colour to attract the eye and we had the pick of the cafe on a quiet weekday morning. With the sunlight streaming in its easy to forget that Hermosa transforms, becoming a bar as night falls.  We started with our coffee order, taking time to peruse our options. The menu is Spanish inspired (yes there are churros for breakfast!) with variations of most of your favourites. With the cafe mostly to ourselves the service was unsurprisingly attentive. We started with coffee with beans from Will & Co. It was rich and creamy, served quite hot but lost some of its flavour as it cooled. Our first dish was avocado on toast served with a lime and tomato salsa and a poached egg on top. We didn’t feel like it needed an egg …

Ingredient Tree Wembley

You’ll find Ingredient Tree a surprising haven from the busy roads that surround it in Wembley. Not only is it a cafe, but it also boasts an impressive array of foodie retail goods for sale. The feel inside is a little cramped, with things everywhere you look, but it’s still cozy and there’s a nice line of tables along the wall to the right as you come in. The coffee was decent but a touch over extracted and on the borderline of being too hot. There were fairly expansive menu options as well as some specials, and as we have done rather more frequently of late we elected two sweet dishes, pancakes and french toast. The pancakes came with a custard and berry coulis and had that little bit of finesse about them that the more home style eateries tend to lack. The tartness of the coulis and berries gave balance to the creamy and sweetness of the custard and we found the pancakes to be light, fluffy and generously sized. The custard tasted like …

The ‘Pear’fect Pantry

On a mid week breakfast urge we decided to check out the ‘Pear’fect Pantry in Wembley. Their Instagram page always seems to have such yummy food, and it’s been on our list for quite some time. The thing is, we weren’t quite prepared for how much of a ‘hidden’ gem the cafe would prove to be. The cafe is nestled between apartment buildings, you’ll be able to see signs for it on the road, but will need to pass it and come around the back to park. A lovely little cafe is last thing you’d expect to find, and providing you don’t find its location too frustrating you’ll walk in with a smile on your face. If you have even a mild fondness for pears, it is fair to say you’ll feel at home at the ‘Pear’fect pantry. Yellow and green pears are just everywhere you look, the decor is so quirky, it’s just wonderful. We came for a mid week breakfast, and had the unexpected surprise of a 10% discount. They do have an …
