The Precinct: Sophisticated Dining in Vic Park

Walking into the Precinct is almost like walking into an art gallery off the street in some far flung, fashionable city. You’ll seek sleek and manicured black, combined with art of the walls and a very purposeful leaking through of the old red brick wall underneath. This cafe in Vic Park is big and open, with plenty of staff around. It opens to the bar and you can glimpse into the kitchen out the back. We started with a smoothie to share and a couple of lattes. Our order was taken quickly and arrived in a timely manner, always a good sign. Our Banana Smoothie was lovely. A pure banana, cinnamon and yogurt with a great thickness, though a touch icey. Our coffees were the first in a while that haven’t been too hot. They had a smooth texture and great flavour. We were quite impressed. Our first meal to arrive was the pea and corn potato cakes. This dish was just amazing, we could have just kept eating and eating. There wasn’t that much …

Harvest Espresso: Autumn Menu

Harvest Espresso is one of our favourite little cafes for breakfast and when they have a new menu out we can’t help ourselves but head over there to try it out! The cafe, though small is homely and comfortable, and always adorned with beautiful flowers on the tables. Harvest generally do a solid coffee, but we were a little disappointed on this occasion. Our lattes had a lovely flavour but were a bit hot, with not enough micro foam. We ordered a sweet and savoury dish from the Autumn menu to try. The air was pregnant with anticipation as our dishes were placed on the table in front of us. We were not disappointed! Our sweet dish was the mango and coconut bread, which came with fruit coulis, ginger cream, pistachio, fresh fruit and a sweet pastry layer. For a start the bread was so vibrant, a lovely bright orange and beautifully soft, perfect to soak up the coulis. The ginger cream added a faint hint of spice, and there was a definite sense of …

Harvest Espresso: Vic Park

Harvest espresso is a tiny little coffee shop and brunchery that can be found on Albany Highway. When I say ‘tiny’ I’m not exaggerating, it really feels like you’re sitting in a shoebox. While it’s cozy and cute, this does create some space issues and even on a quite weekday morning there’s a tussle for space. That being said it is comfortable, and the food and coffee are worth the close proximity to your neighbours. We first visited Harvest espresso due to the buzz surrounding their new spring menu, DineWhitMe’sΒ postΒ is probably the best of those, and we couldn’t resist checking it out. Since then we have come back specifically for the baked almond brioche twice and each time it has blown us away. When you want to come back to a cafe to try an item again simply because they changed the poached fruit in it you know it’s a pretty spectacular meal. On our first visit, it was poached strawberries and toasted muesli, on an almond brioche, and with a chamomile panna cotta (standing …
