Back at Mary Street

Yeah, when we walked out after breakfast a few weeks ago and saw the pastries on display we knew we would be back at some point… We’ve tried a number of things since then and all have been to die for! If you’re going to have bakery in your name we’re going to expect a lot from you and Mary Street Bakery certainly delivered! This is their salted caramel tart. It was oozy, sugary, chocolate coated goodness. So rich but so tasty! What you can see now the circle of heaven, this is the hazelnut flavored though they offer others on any given day. In taste and texture it resembles a cronut with a creamy hazelnut centre. It’s crispy, creamy, flaky form of delicious all at once. Mary street bakery is known for their delicious donuts, we only tried a sugared donut, but it was everything a donut should be. Before donuts were mass produced supermarket fodder (and probably before my time) I am certain that this is what a donut should taste like! Last …

Mary Street Bakery

Mary Street Bakery is a new addition to the array of food options available on Beaufort Street Mount Lawley, it’s by the same guys that are behind ย Cantina 663, Ace Pizza (another new venue I can’t wait to try) and El Publico. ย They pride themselves on delicious baked goods and coffee. The best bit is that ‘bakery’ is not just a name, they actually have an artisan bakery out the back. As you enter there’s a retro vibe, wooden chairs, tiled walls and a huge counter covered in delicious morsels. We started with a tasty Pound coffee (find themย http://poundcoffeeroastery.com.au and on Facebook), which was smooth and flavoursome, better yet it was local. They even won some awards recently over East for their coffee. There were plenty of choices on the menu, and all of them sounded appealing, from baked goods to the more substantial meals. We selected the sweet pancakes …

Cantina 663

Cantina 663 is a European Cafe in Mount Lawley, located on Beaufort street near the Astor theatre and the old Planet Video corner. It serves a mix of organic, in season and local produce and the menu changes on a regular basis. We went for a savoury and sweet option, as well as coffees and some banana bread to share. The coffee arrived quickly and was smooth and tasty, no bitterness just lots of flavour. Though the level of foam was a little low for a latte, the overall coffee experience was overwhelmingly positive. The banana bread came with maple butter and nice and toasty. There was a crispness to the outside with a moist inside. Combined with the melting maple butter it was divine. They were such thick slices too and very filling. As I can’t resist Cantina hotcakes I tried the strawberry, hazelnut and ricotta hotcakes. They were beautiful, light and fluffy and soaked in strawberry sauce with poached strawberries, hazelnuts, and a hazelnut puree. The flavours were divine, the sweetness was balanced …
