Ace Pizza

With great expectations and keen for a feed, we headed over to Ace Pizza with delightful company for a quiet Thursday night meal. We didn’t book and were lucky to snag a table in their outside area, which excepting a few drips from potted plants had a great atmosphere. Soon after we arrived people were being turned away without a booking. The lesson here is even if you’re going midweek, book ahead! The service at Ace was absolutely fantastic, we had a delightful waitress, attentive and friendly. We were also impressed by her knowledge of the food and drinks, but in particular the cocktails and Italian liqueurs. One of those cocktails was the negroni. Which is gin based and quite alcoholic with sweet vermouth and Campari, in this case flavored with orange. The beetroot, rocket and bocconcini salad is one of those made to share. It’s a huge serving of fresh ingredients, the slightly sweet and earthy beetroot and the creamy bocconcini in particular were fantastic. The vegetarian at our table definitely appreciated a more …

Bocelli’s South Perth – Italian in the Suburbs

Bocelli’s is a quaint, homely Italian restaurant that can be found on Angelo Street in South Perth. They are popular in the area for good food at decent prices and their lovely courtyard is usually bustling with activity. Bocelli’s is BYO, so we grabbed a bottle of wine from the Liquor Barons further up the street and headed over for an evening out. We were luckily able to sit in the courtyard despite not having a booking. The staff were friendly and promptly provided us with menus and water for the table. We tried the garlic bread for our entree, and were not disappointed. It arrived hot, crisp, and deliciously buttery with enough garlic to really taste it without being overpowering. The two of us had two large pieces each and could have gone for more were we not waiting on large main courses. One downside of Bocellis is that their menu very rarely changes, so on seeing the addition of gorgonzola pork chops with pear and veggies there was no doubt we had to …

Ciao Italia, finally we say hello.

With massive lines out the door on any given day of the week, Ciao Italia is a must for any fan of Italian food, generous servings and good prices.ย Knowing there would be lines we went on a Tuesday night at 5.45pm, convinced that we wouldn’t have to wait. We were wrong, already there was a 20 minute wait and the restaurant was bustling with activity. When we were seated inside we were met with red checked tablecloths, smiling faces of the serving staff and the delicious smell of good cooking. ย The restaurant was noisy and packed but it felt more like a meal at home with background noise, and was to be expected for such a busy place. We were served fairly promptly, and had a refreshing citron pressed from Margaret river, beautifully tart.ย We started with garlic bread, the smell was intoxicating, and you could smell the garlic before it arrived at your table. ย When it arrived it was perfect, crunchy, buttery, garlic-y goodness! They did not disappoint! We were a little optimistic in ordering …
