Wills Domain / Margaret River

You’ll find Will’s Domain in an absolutely stunning locale in Margaret River. From the moment you drive up you’ll know that you’ve stumbled upon something really special!    The view is enough to stop you in your tracks. The building is exquisitely shaped to pool the light through, to let you take in the view from every angle. It’s a truly breathtaking experience to share a meal out in the sunshine on a day like we were blessed with.    We opted for the 7 courses with some on the table choosing the matched wines. We decided to pass on the additional courses that could be added. There was a wedding on and we had to leave by a set time, something we weren’t made aware of in our original booking. The meal started with snacks. First was a still warm bread roll. It was fresh, warm and delicious and we were just starting to wonder what the next course would be when more snacks arrived at the table!    We were treated to house made crisps – a league …

East Village / Perth CBD

Tucked inside 140 Perth is a new American inspired watery, East Village. 140 has been striving to bring new and different venues and retailers to the Perth CBD and East Village has been creating quite a stir. The layout of the restaurant is long and narrow, diner style to bring an American feel to your meal. The venue is noisy, often with a queue out the front so be sure to book ahead. The service is patchy at best, scattered and slow, they were doing their best but when we visited there just wasn’t enough people to keep up with the lunch rush.  Strawberry milkshake Looks great but made with syrup. Good froth. Kinda just tastes like the fake strawberry ice cream we had as kids We ordered a strawberry milkshake after seeing another table get one. It certainly looked impressive served in a mason jar, topped with whipped cream and raspberry liquorice. Unfortunately the flavours were lacking. It was made with syrup, was overly sweet, tasting like the fake strawberry ice cream you buy …

Hopscotch / South Perth

Hopscotch is the newest small bar in South Perth. It opened on Angelo Street just after we left and it was disappointing to miss out an exciting new local. Luckily we’re back and it was our first foodie stop of our visit!   Hopscotch has a stylish interior with more space than you expect coming in from the street. There’s raw walls on the left and sleek black on the other. A large modern bar takes up the centre with a self service wine machine adding to the sleek feel.  There’s a mix of dishes available. There’s small dishes for sharing as well as pizzas and more substantial bites. We started with some drinks and went for a selection of tastes for the table. We started with a simple bowl of olives, as well as a duck liver pate with a port jelly. The pate was difficult to serve from the jar but was creamy and rich with a crispy bread and just a touch of salt. Unable to resist a good croquette we selected the Jamon croquettes. It …

Etro Cafe and Bistro King St

You’ll find Etro on King Street, between Murray and Hay and close to Wolf lane. We had been to Etro some time ago, but weren’t impressed. It seems Urbanspoon wasn’t either, but we decided to give it another go as they’ve done a revamp since then and we’d really great things about their all day breakfast/lunch menu. The interior of cafe is spacious and inviting, while outside the tables and chairs are placed on fake lawn giving the whole cafe a more hipster vibe. We went for lunch, a change from our usual breakfasting, and though they did have an all day menu we both went for lunch dishes. The steak sandwich we ordered was very good quality. The steak was well cooked and juicy, while the chips were crisp and crunchy. A well done version of the pub classic, and since Etro is licensed we got to eat it while enjoying a refreshing cider. The Porky pig immediately caught my eye and I just had to try it! It was an Asian inspired salad, …
