True North / Coburg – Breakfast Review
Welcome to my breakfast review of True North, the coolest hangout in Coburg. True North is the creation of Nadia and Brett who’ve combined their skills to create a friendly, local venue for the changing suburb that is Coburg.
We started with lattes, and were pleased to find that one of our favourite baristas from A Minor Place has moved to Coburg and now works at True North. While they’re actually more popular for their $5.00 filter coffee with free refills, we were in the mood for something milky and this really hit the spot.
Along with the filter coffee, the breakfast menu at True North is quite American-inspired: there’s Tex-Mex classics like the Huevos Rancheros, plus bagels AND a daily sweet pie on offer. We ended up ordering the Huevos Rancheros for breakfast, and absolutely loved the combination of egg, tortilla, salsa, black bean and guacamole.
We also went for a sweet option, obviously. True North offers blueberry hotcakes, served with a light coconut whip, passionfruit and lemon curd plus blueberry coulis. We loved the thickness of the hotcakes and how well cooked through they were. The tangy curd and creaminess of the coconut was a sweet but lighter option than many you’ll find around town.
If breakfast and lunch isn’t your jam True North also offer a curry night on Thursdays and a great range of cocktails and other alcoholic beverages served throughout the day.
