Gordon Street Garage is quick becoming our go to restaurant for excellent food and coffee every time. Their menu is constantly updated and there’s always something seasonal and awesome for us to try.
The Mano a Mano roastery make some favoursome coffee beans, roasted on site and made with love, there’s a little something wonderful in all the coffees we’ve enjoyed here. Today was no different, it was creamy and delicious.
What’s more impressive is the consistency between the dine in and takeaway coffees on offer. Despite being made on two different machines, the flavour is always spot on and the taste is the immediately recognisable as a Gordon Street Garage blend.
As we have previously, we couldn’t pass up the banana bread and chocolate mascarpone. It’s was crispy, light and indulgent all at once. Chocolate and banana is a combination that just works. Definitely something to try on your next visit.
Our first dish was a more brunch-y option, with avocado, horseradish and grapefruit crostini. This was an incredibly simple but stunningly presented dish. The flavours work so well together, but the avocado was definite star. It pulled together the horseradish and grapefruit, ingredients often assaulting to the senses, and made them divine. The crostini too was well done and the eggs nicely cooked. This dish was made to be eaten with a little bit of everything in each mouthful and it’s something we’d be happy to order again.
Our second choice was pancakes with salted caramel, banana and roasted hazelnut. This was a really rich, and indulgent dish, the best part being that there was more then enough salted caramel sauce to go round. The pancakes were big and fluffy, and cooked perfectly, something that is surprisingly hard to come by. Our favourite part of the meal though was the salted caramel sauce, because it came with a slight hint of Rosemary, a really interesting and subtlety used favour that was just so perfect and so unexpected. Our only gripe would have been a little more banana but otherwise we were very happy with it.
We couldn’t help but compare it with Typika’s Golden French Toast, both are such a treat, and both have multitudes of caramel for those sweet toothed among us. If you’ve tried them both, let me know what you think in the comments!
Gordon Street Garage continue to deliver exactly what they promise, delicious, high quality and interesting meals complimented by absolutely fantastic coffee.
