As we so often do, we ended up at our local favourite for breakfast, Halo Espresso on Angelo Street. We knew they’d added a few things to their menu and were keen to try them out. They always have such a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, the staff remember your name and you’re served with a smile. There are few better things in life then watching the world go by over coffee and breakfast at a much loved cafe.
The coffee is reliably good at Halo, something we know from numerous breakfast and takeaway coffee experiences. On this occasion it was a little hot but the microfoam was delicious and creamy to a good level in the glass.
The mention of crepes had us interested, and caramelised banana too? Well we just had to try it! It looked a treat on the plate and was guaranteed to make an impact when it arrived at our table. The crepes were drizzled in caramel and beautifully garnished with strawberries. The crepes themselves were a bit soggy with the syrup, and the banana was soft, though a touch overcooked. The strawberry brought it all together, the touch of tart and firmness really balanced the sweet and soft of the crepes.
The breakfast sundae was another new addition, a combination of toasted muesli, Greek yogurt and a mixed berry coulis. The toasted muesli was great, its a bit of a pet peeve to have soggy toasted muesli, and this was deliciously crunchy. Greek yogurt generally has a tendency to be a little too tart, however it was great in this, perfectly balanced by the sweetness from the berry. There was a good amount of each of the fillings and they were very well presented in the tall glass. A very satisfying and enjoyable breakfast.
Thanks for having us back Halo! It wasn’t our first visit and it certainly won’t be our last!
