Mary Street Bakery

image

Mary Street Bakery is a new addition to the array of food options available on Beaufort Street Mount Lawley, it’s by the same guys that are behind  Cantina 663, Ace Pizza (another new venue I can’t wait to try) and El Publico.  They pride themselves on delicious baked goods and coffee. The best bit is that ‘bakery’ is not just a name, they actually have an artisan bakery out the back.

As you enter there’s a retro vibe, wooden chairs, tiled walls and a huge counter covered in delicious morsels. We sat in a table by the window, sun streaming in and a great view of the hustle and bustle of the busy street outside. We started with a tasty Pound coffee (find them http://poundcoffeeroastery.com.au and on Facebook), which was smooth and flavoursome, better yet it was local. They even won some awards recently over East for their coffee.

There were plenty of choices on the menu, and all of them sounded appealing, from baked goods to the more substantial meals. We selected the sweet pancakes and the pork belly. The Pork Belly arrived first, with two generous serves of pork and copious amounts of beans and a spicy salad mix with toast to the side. The Pork was delicious, the fat melted in your mouth with the nice crunch of crackling coming through.

The pancakes were equally satisfying. Apart from looking like a treat on the plate, they tasted absolutely delicious. The pancakes were crisp on the outside, with a beautiful buttery flavour, and soft and light on the inside as good pancakes should be. They were served with pistachios, banana cream and a strawberry meringue, all of which were fantastic on their own but electric together. The favourite was definitely the banana cream, a creative twist on the conventional ‘pancakes, cream and fruit’ combination.
