With its unassuming exterior, you’d be forgiven for not noticing The Happy Wife in Bunbury, but believe us when we say its well worth a look inside.
Located on the water, the Happy Wife make the most of it by cultivating a relaxed and beach-y feel inside, with plenty of artwork adorning the walls.
The view was just amazing out the back, but a bit too chilly for us (though there are blankets available), so we settled on a comfy table inside.
You’ll need to place your order at the counter and can find the menu on the wall nearby. We went with our usual mix of a savoury and sweet as well as a couple of lattes.
The coffee was made with dimattina beans. It was served at a decent temperature and had a good strength though was probably a touch over extracted.
Our savoury dish was the the Boston baked beans and chorizo. It was a served with poached eggs and spinach in toast to the side. How it was served made it feel very much like two separate dishes, two tasty dishes, but it was hard to combine the flavours without an extra piece of toast to bring it together. The beans and chorizo really shone through, it was just rich and meaty and perfect for the chilly winters day.
Our sweet dish, the crumpets, were served pretty as a picture. The crumpets didn’t have the holes we expected but they had a lovely flavour and texture. The fruit and honeycomb worked well to balance each other out, it was a mix of sweet and tart, fresh and hot elements. The dish as a whole was comfortably filling.
The Happy Wife is a hidden gem down South and we encourage you to check it out for something special on the water.
